The new Betfair Poker room

As one wise soul once put it, “Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine”.

The new Betfair Poker room launched to a fanfare last week, after many months of development and testing. Despite some inevitable teething problems that have given (and continue to give) the Betfair Games engineers a few uncomfortable nights sleep, thousands are already enjoying the new poker platform and the response has been overwhelming.

As is to be expected with change, there will always be doubters and dissenters, as many people don’t like being asked to move away from their usual way of doing things. It’s one of the dangers of trying new things unfortunately. However, the Poker Team are confident that they can swing the cynics’ opinion with new product developments scheduled for late November and December, not to mention some ludicrously enticing offers to help re-acclimatise players to the new room.

Speaking of offers, if you haven’t tried Betfair Poker before, we should mention that you’re entitled to earn up to $150 as part of a special Independence Sign-Up Bonus. You can find out more by clicking here. If you have sat down at the Betfair tables before, don’t despair, you are also eligible for a bonus, possibly of up to $240! Find out more here. On top of this, until December 31st 2006, you will have 50% of your Sit & Go (STT) tournament fees returned to you on a weekly basis. There is also $100,000 in great prizes to be won in next week’s online BAPT and it’s also not long until Betfair Poker’s famous 12 Plays of Christmas promotion. You can’t say fairer than that…

Feedback

Naturally, Betfair are very keen to hear players' feedback (both good and bad) and we're encouraged by many of our players' optimism for the future, despite the occurrence of some obvious flaws and bugs in the early days. The great thing for us is that we can now work proactively on your feedback, without the hindrance of a third party, and many of the requests are already being addressed in November and December upgrades. To this effect, Betfair Poker held a live Q&A session with Andrew Black (Betfair co-founder), Ben Fried (Head of Poker), Stephan Samson (Head of Poker Marketing) and Ruairidh O'Laoire (Room Activity Manager) on the forum (on) to pick up more suggestions and answer your concerns. Play it your way

Lots of people have asked us why we moved from the old platform. The reason was that the old Cryptologic software had served us fantastically well for the first incarnation of Betfair Poker, but like any ambitious company, we want to be in control of our own destiny.

The new Betfair Poker software allows us that freedom. We now own and can run the room as you want it run – whether you want to add features, change the games, or introduce new tournaments. You won’t hear "the network won't let us" from us ever again, though you may hear "Good idea - we'll try and do that".

With the arrival of the new room comes additional responsibility for the players. We have to turn Betfair Poker into the best poker room anywhere. And for that we need your views, opinions, and knowledge of how you like to play. What games do you like? What would you like to see more of? What functionality do you think is missing? It’s your chance to input in evolving what we think will set the standard for online poker rooms into the future.

Those of you who know some of the people behind the scenes at our poker room will know that they’re players themselves and love the game. They’re committed to the vision of what Betfair Poker will become. By telling us what you think, we hope you are too. We’d like to say a big thank you to those who have already told us what they think, you are already helping to shape the future of Betfair Poker.
