Our guide to some highlights on TV during the next few weeks. Add some excitement to the event by betting live and in-play
It’s the most eagerly awaited of the London Derbies, as far as the neutrals are concerned. Chelsea host Arsenal as the two giants lock horns on Sunday 12th December (live TV coverage from 16:05). They are ‘neck and neck’ at the top of the Premiership but have adopted contrasting styles in order to get there. Arsenal are the League’s highest scorers by a country mile but Chelsea have based their success on a tight defence and are the only team to boast single figures in the goals against column, leaving a few people scratching their heads as regards the Over/Under 2.5 and total goals markets.
Arsenal play hosts to Rosenborg on December 7th in a must-win match for the Gunners in a Champions League campaign that has lacked the fluidity of their Premiership performances. Arsenal have only scored one second-half goal in 4 Champions League matches this season so fans of the half time/full time market may fancy the Arsenal/Arsenal runner on this occasion.
Liverpool are home to Olympiakos and former World Player of the Year Rivaldo. None of Liverpool’s 4 matches in the Champion’s League have produced more than 2 goals so Under 2.5 goals may be the order of the day. The last encounter between these two teams did however produce 6 bookings and a dismissal so the bookings market may be an extremely interesting one to monitor.
Ernie Els loves the big prize money tournaments, as proved by his recent victory in the HSBC World Matchplay. Formerly known as the “Million Dollar Challenge” and held in Sun City in his native South Africa, Els has won this tournament three times already. He’ll need to be at his very best to make it four though with an Elite 12-man field including Garcia and fellow South African Retief Goosen. The usual range of 2-ball and tournament match bets will be available throughout the tournament.
Cricket- Australia v New Zealand ODIs
As the two Southern Hemisphere rivals end their Test Series, a 3-match ODI program commences, with Sky Sports Extra coverage from 03:00 onwards (5th, 8th and 10th December). With Gilchrist, Hayden and Ponting for Australia and Cairns and Astle for New Zealand, both sides have batsmen capable of scoring at explosive pace, making the innings runs market a fascinating affair- albeit one countered by some of the best fielding in the one-day game.
Christmas no. 1
Bob Geldof has once again managed to assemble a “who’s who” of Pop music as Band Aid is back after twenty years. Their “Do they know it’s Christmas” will be the song to beat to the No.1 spot as one of English betting’s favorite markets goes up on Betfair. A Christmas No.1, top three market and a betting without Band Aid will be available as will a selection of other markets- music to the ears of fans of Betfair’s Special Bets markets.
